My London Taxi Transfer-Airports & Local Transfers

THE TRANSFER BRIEF  |  Issue 01  |  August 2026  |  From My London Transfer

Peak season is here, the terminals are heaving, and even dropping someone at the kerb now costs more than a pint. A little planning with summer airport transfer saves you money, time and the 6am stress.

What Does It Now Cost Just to Drop Someone at the Terminal?

More than it did in January, at every London airport. Heathrow is £7 for up to 10 minutes, with an £80 fine if you forget to pay by midnight the next day. Gatwick jumped 43% to £10 for 10 minutes, then £1 a minute after that. Stansted is £10 for 15 minutes and a brutal £28 if you creep over, paid at a barrier on the way out, so there is no forgetting. Luton is £7, and London City brought in its first ever charge this year at £8 for five minutes. Only Birmingham still gives you 10 minutes free. The kerb is no longer cheap.

When Should You Actually Leave in Peak Summer?

Earlier than the app tells you. Summer weekends stack school-holiday families, stag groups and business travellers into the same three-hour windows, and security queues swell with them. For a morning long-haul out of Heathrow or Gatwick, give yourself a genuine buffer rather than the optimistic one. The cost of leaving 40 minutes early is a coffee. The cost of leaving 40 minutes late is the flight.

Why Do Groups Get Stung the Worst?

Because the maths turns against you fast. A family of five with cases, or a team of six, does not fit in a standard saloon, so you end up in two cars, two drop-off charges and two lots of stress. One larger summer airport transfer vehicle, booked ahead, is usually cheaper and always calmer. Add a meet-and-greet on the way home and nobody is standing in the rain hunting for the car.

Disruption Watch

Summer is strike and air-traffic season, so build slack into any dated trip. Check for engineering works on the Gatwick Express and Heathrow rail links before you rely on them, and remember heat slows the whole network down. A pre-booked car sidesteps most of it.

Date for the Diary

Notting Hill Carnival takes over West London on 30 and 31 August. If you are flying that weekend, read the next issue first, because the closures are bigger than most people expect.

The Takeaway

A fixed-fare transfer folds the drop-off charge into one agreed price, and the driver waits for you rather than the meter. No barriers, no £80 surprise, no second car. Get a fixed summer airport transfer quote before you travel.
